Line4Line seeks to increase literacy outcomes in our community my creating greater access to free quality diverse new books. Through our Book of the Month Program and Community Lending Library we provide students, families and teachers with  BIPOC focused, own-voices books so that children of color have the opportunity to see themselves in the stories they are reading.

Line4Line’s Lending Library is housed in at 447 N. Acadian and can visited during open hours or by making an appointment. Books provided by our program partner the Conscious Kid, purchased by First Book, and donated by community partner. Children, parents, caregivers and educator can come and look through our available titles, and receive recommendations from our staff.

Line4Line  also gives out both new and used books all scheduled community events. Schools and organizations seeking books can reach out to use  for book donations or schedule us to attend special family events. For families seeking additional supports around literacy we recommend signing up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This program is funded by the State of Louisiana and administered by Volunteers of America South Central Louisiana.

Since 2021 Line4Line has placed over 16,000 books into homes and classrooms throughout our city. We partner with several local groups including East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library and Baton Rouge Book Drop to re home books.

In 2020 Line4Line collaborated with the Conscious Kid to provide a collection of 3000 children’s books to all East Baton Rouge Parish Public & Charter Title 1 School Libraries. This project created greater access to books that support essential conversations about race, racism, and resilience; affirmed students from Black and Brown communities, and empowered youth from all backgrounds to take action against racism. Children’s books are one of the most practical and effective tools for initiating these critical conversations with children and can also be used to model what it means to resist and disrupt oppression.

Explore the resources created for this project below. Many of these titles are available in Line4Line’s Community Lending Library.
